Growing as a Recruiter.
I work with many other “virtual recruiters” at Sterling Professions & Associates. The company has a trainee program, in which they take professionals from other industries who have a career-minded personality, and attempt to groom them to work in the industry. I have been responsible for a team of recruiters for some time, and all are interested in knowing “the secret” to being successful as a recruiter. Very few, are willing to do the tasks required to be successful.
Technology is a great sales tool, but it can never do the job for you. I like to compare it to a heart patient who finds out they have heart disease, takes their medications, but is unwilling to change their lifestyle. Recruiting requires that you are comfortable prospecting with clients and candidates – and if you are unwilling to pick up the phone and sell – it’s only a matter of time before you realize that you are working without a paycheck.
Social networking is a wonderful outlet to connect to candidates, and hiring managers, but it still requires that you act in a timely manner when communicating with these individuals. In recruiting, the 10% willing to invest their time in the income producing activities, are earning more than 90% of the total fees paid!
As the industry changes every day, it’s always nice to realize that in general, the foundations of success don’t really change that much. Regardless of what title you give yourself in the business, and no matter what anyone leads you to believe, every successful recruiter has to be willing to roll up their sleeves, and work for their star clients and candidates.
I currently specialize in the healthcare industry, and have worked with some of the most prestigious hospitals and medical facilities in the United States. I take personal responsibility for sourcing and obtaining the very best candidates for my clients, and as such, I create the kind of repeat business that allows me to micro-focus on locating and negotiating with the “top dogs” in healthcare. The candidates I work with always know that I make their placement a top priority, and I give them the personalized service they deserve. Backed by a company like Sterling Professions & Associates, who provides the kind of back office support to make the entire process easy, I’ve got the perfect, win-win situation, for ALL parties involved.
